2020 has been a difficult year for so many reasons: battling dual pandemics between Covid-19 and racial injustice, our political and social climates erupting, the sense of normalcy evaporating into quarantines and sudden paralyzing anxiety about contracting the virus or in some cases even worse, infecting someone who you love with it.
A unique factor of this year has been the collective nature of the grief, concern and overwhelm initiated by these events. So many people are hurting at the same time. And we are collectively experiencing and witnessing the ways people carry and handle such a heavy load. Some have lost their ability to cope in healthy and productive ways and have succumbed to addictions, depression, isolation and maladaptive behaviors.
Some have felt a heaviness from loss like never ever before.
Although we are all experiencing this together, we are not all experiencing it the same way, and you may be suffering in silence.
We want to provide a space and platform to make connections with others who have experienced the pain of loss related to Covid-19 this year. Whether you’ve lost loved ones, a career you’ve worked hard to build, a home due to our economic crisis, or even the sweetest accomplishments of walking across the stage at your high school or college graduation— this is a space that will be available and safe for you.
What can you expect at the grief group?
- A structure that allows you to share your experiences, judgment free and uninterrupted. You can expect a community of people who can empathize with you because they too are attending due to their losses related to the pandemic.
- That we will start and end the same way each time, to allow you to feel comfort and predictability in your experience.
- That you can gain some tools and support from others who are at varying stages of processing their own grief.
- The group to be facilitated, lightly, by qualified mental health professionals who are ready and able to guide the discussion as needed.
- A comfortable environment if you choose to come in person, and a welcoming platform if you choose to participate online.
- A desire to return so that you can have the continued experience of moving forward in your life while feeling heard and validated
