About Rebecca Katz, Ph.D, LPCA

Welcome to Rebecca’s Office

Life can be messy.

Life is messy, sometimes due to no fault of our own.  But what has happened to us does not have to define us, even when we are overwhelmed with sadness that becomes transformed into anger or rage.  Walking through our feelings often means we need to untangle our triggers and make  adjustments in our thinking and behavior.

Seeking help to meet your needs

Experiences with individual or collective Insults to our identities whether we are racial minorities or members of the LGBTQAI+ and or first or second generation Americans or new immigrants does not have to be the central theme of our story.  Let me help you to help yourself to develop a  thicker skin by taking back your power in effective and strategic ways. Let’s change the central theme of your story.

Intimate relationships can be challenging as well as painful, and so we have to learn how to use our heads and our hearts in determining the costs and benefits and or negotiating to get our needs met. These are skills we all of do not learn from observing our primary role models as children.

Substance use is an easy way to self-medicate but often prohibits us from learning how to handle life on life’s terms.

I have been through some of these struggles myself and I want to help you to help yourself to get to the other side of these feelings, thoughts and problematic behaviors.

Call me today at (502) 333-9466 to make the first huge step toward your most authentic and best life.

About Me

Experience prompted my passion.

I grew up in the southwest in Oklahoma and Texas and was primarily raised by a single Mom.  I have been fortunate enough to have lived in Taiwan, Germany and the Republic of Georgia and these wonderful cross-cultural experiences have led me to be acutely aware of my own Western privilege while learning how much alike we humans are across artificial borders or barriers.  While I am privileged by being white, I have seen oppression as a member of the LGBTQAI+ community and as a woman while I have also witnessed systemic and institutionalized racism and xenophobia.  I value social justice and equality and I  work to do my part to interrupt it and support social change. I want to help you process those injustices, fight for yourself and your community  by  helping you find ways to become empowered.

I  served in the military as a young woman and later  worked as a therapist with men who were incarcerated. I have also worked with  men and women who had felonies in their past. As a result I  support decarceration and an end to the raclaized war on crime and  on drugs.  At the same time, I support restorative justice and victims’ rights as well as human rights.

Spiritual growth is an important part of my life and I explored a variety of different spiritual pathways  until I embraced the faith of my Father, Judaism. So I understand we all have to find our own spiritual or secular roads.  I will explore with you if this is something you want to work toward.

I have been a therapist for sixteen years and I want you to know that I am here to help you help yourself.  I am keenly aware that our wounds can become stumbling blocks until we learn to manage them rather than let them manage us.

I have a loving partner of 25 years and a group of wonderfully supportive friends to whom I am truly grateful.  I hope you will allow me to  become a part of your journey toward growth, fulfillment, peace and happiness.
